Bio-Nano-Chips Customized for Trauma Patients
Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) occurs with an incidence of 24-38% and a mortality rate of 50% in critically ill trauma patients. In a collaboration with the group of Dr. John B. Holcomb at UTHSCH, we now have an active program that targets the development of new diagnostic tools suitable for this area. Currently, no reliable indicators of AKI are able to afford clinicians ample time to provide goal-directed therapy and thereby prevent multi-organ failure, the leading cause of morbidity in post-trauma ICU patients.
